Sigma Forge FC were beaten 5-1 by Inter Toronto U20 Blue in the Ontario Premier League Fall U-20, a result that pushed the visitors up to third in the standings on 16 points from nine matches with one regular-season fixture left.
Eduardo Ramos opened the scoring in the 36th minute, and Inter Toronto doubled the lead six minutes later when Sigma Forge defender Aleksa Gavranovic turned the ball into his own net. Ramos completed his brace in the 68th minute before Taras Bodnar pulled one back for Sigma Forge in the 70th. The response did not last: Davin Chhoeun restored the three-goal cushion in the 76th minute and Aylon Yshaia added a fifth a minute later. Yshaia also recorded an assist, while Ali Majed, Jason Brown, Nico Andrada and Esteban Cebena were among those singled out for strong performances.
Ramos' double took him to nine goals for the season, level with The Borough FC's Karim Meradija in second place in the league scoring race and three behind Richmond Hill SC midfielder Herad Mohamadi. Inter Toronto have two other players among the leading scorers in David Peraza, on seven, and Yshaia, on five. The club is the highest-scoring side in the competition with 38 goals in nine games, and has conceded 15 for a goal difference of plus-23.
The match also underlined how Inter Toronto are using their youth pathway. Five players from the group, Andrada, Peraza, Ty Clarke, Brown and Chimaobim Onyeocha, were part of the First Team squad that beat Atlético Ottawa 2-1 at York Lions Stadium on Sunday, October 25. Andrada, 18, made his second CPL start of the season, Clarke and Peraza came on in the second half, and Brown, a 16-year-old from East Gwillimbury, Ontario, made his professional debut after the interval.
Inter Toronto U20 Blue close their regular season at home to Windsor City FC on Sunday, November 1 at 7:15 p.m. at OSC.
